Not A Butterball

Not A Butterball

Tom Turkey stuck his neck out
Trying to be the best of the lot
Not realizing that to be the best
Meant only the butcher block
The others kept it to themselves
Did their best to stay oh so slim
When that fateful day arrived
They wanted it to be him
Tom Turkey ate more than his share
The other gobblers let him have all
While pretending that they cared
The farmer guy made an appearance
The same time every day
Made Tom Turkey feel special
As he did the daily weigh
Tom Turkey was truly the king
He strutted and he sauntered
And displayed his strong fine wings
Then one day he grew up
Instead of growing out
Because he finally learned the truth
Of what it was all about
He stopped eating and
Pretended to be so sick
Ate when others were not looking
And his neck was no longer thick
The fateful day arrived
But Tom Turkey was too slim
The farmer guy took another
A lot more foolish than him
Smiling to himself
He thought not bad at all
At least this year he survived
Being the baked butterball
